Volunteer Befriender

Telephone befriending offering companionship through conversation to unpaid adult carers in East Lothian, helping carers to feel connected, emotionally supported and understood.
Volunteers will be given full training and ongoing support during their time with Carers of East Lothian.

Experience required

Good communication skills and active listening skills. Ability to be non-judgemental and empathetic. Lived experience or understanding of caring.

Travel expenses

Volunteers reimbursed on a monthly basis for agreed expenses. For any larger outlays, payment will be arranged by COEL.

Support
Training details

Initial introductory training to get to know organisation.
Thorough training in befriending.
Regular supervision with Volunteer and Training Coordinator.
Ongoing training to develop volunteers skills if appropriate.
Regular opportunities to meet with and learn from other volunteers.
