As Kirkwall RNLI Fundraising Secretary, you’ll be the organised heartbeat of the fundraising team, helping great ideas turn into well-run, successful events. You’ll take care of the essential admin that keeps everything ticking along – from taking notes at meetings and keeping everyone on track, to sending thank-you messages that show supporters just how valued they are.
You’ll support a friendly, creative group whose aim is to raise vital funds through events like Open Days, coffee mornings, quizzes, raffles and whatever new ideas come along. No two months are quite the same, and you’ll play a key role behind the scenes in making sure everything runs smoothly. It’s a rewarding, varied role with plenty of teamwork, laughter and the satisfaction of supporting RNLI lifesaving work in your local community.
What could a volunteer gain from the experience:
As Kirkwall Fundraising Secretary, you’ll become part of a friendly, passionate station family, meet new people, and know your time and energy are directly supporting RNLI lifesaving work. You’ll build confidence, develop new skills, and enjoy the satisfaction of seeing your ideas come to life through fun, successful events.
Experience required
Organisational skills would be an advantage.

Training details
Your first port of call will be the other volunteers who are a friendly and experienced bunch. You will also have an RNLI staff member assigned to assist you and the fundraising group in your role. This person will be on hand for induction, training and advice whenever needed. Based in Perth they will come and visit Orkney a couple of times each year.
You'll also have the support of other RNLI fundraising groups in Orkney, there are 11! Orkney does an amazing job of setting up events, raffles and all sorts of creative things to help raise vital funds for the RNLI. They often collaborate on big events (like the Island Games) and will be there to lend a hand if needed.
Finally, you'll have the help of the rest of RNLI Kirkwall community including the shop team, the crew and a lifeboat press officer to help advertise the fundraising group and your events.
It's a role where you'll have lots of freedom to be creative, but one which puts you in the centre of a supportive, enthusiastic network of people so you never feel like you're doing it alone.
