Volunteer at The Nook

We're looking for volunteers!
The Nook in Aberdeen will open its doors this summer, and we need your help. Located at Marischal Square, Upperkirkgate, Aberdeen City Centre, The Nook in Aberdeen offers free, drop-in mental health and wellbeing support seven days a week - without the need for an appointment or referral. A safe, stigma-free space where anyone can visit to speak about mental health. The Nook will provide visitors with access to support for themselves, or people they care about.
We're looking for friendly faces to join as either as a Wellbeing Volunteer, or a Peer Support Volunteer:
-Wellbeing Volunteers
You’ll help create a welcoming, supportive space for people seeking mental health support. You'll greet visitors, offer a compassionate ear, and assist with setting up the space and wellbeing activities. No qualifications are needed, just empathy, good listening skills and a commitment to helping others feel safe and respected.
-Peer Support Volunteers:
Peer Support Volunteers use their own experiences of mental health recovery to support others. You’ll help run support groups and conversation cafes, provide understanding through shared experience, and contribute to a safe, non-judgemental environment. This role is an opportunity to use your lived experience in a purposeful way, with space for growth, learning and reflection.
These roles are flexible, all training and ongoing support is provided, and we can help you develop new skills and improve existing ones.
Volunteering with SAMH provides the opportunity to:
-Make a Difference – Using your own experience, help contribute to the delivery of timely compassionate support to those who need it most, ensuring they receive the help they deserve in a welcoming and safe environment.
-Develop New Skills – Gain confidence and valuable experience, with the chance to develop your knowledge and skills through ongoing support and training opportunities.
-Make Meaningful Connections - Join a supportive team of staff and volunteers who value inclusion, compassion, and mutual respect, where every voice is heard, and contribution valued
Ross, a Wellbeing Volunteer with SAMH shares a bit about his experience so far in the role.: “My favourite thing about The Nook is the number of people I’ve got to meet and interact with.
"Everyone at The Nook is very responsive to the fact you're always learning. It's helped me develop my skills, but if I'm ever unsure, I can go to anyone on shift to get support.
"We do hear how much The Nook has supported people, and it's great to be able to provide that. It's a great service that's been really needed. The flexibility at The Nook is great. I've still got time to do my hospitality job in the evening, as well as balance university."
If you’re ready to be part of The Nook and help transform access to mental health support in Aberdeen we’d love to hear from you!
