Volunteer Delivery Helper

Food Train supports older people across Scotland to live healthier, more independent lives by improving access to food, reducing isolation, and promoting dignity in later life. Our vision is that every older person in Scotland has the access to nutritious food, compassionate support, and the social connections they need.
Food Train is an award winning charity providing services to older people who are no longer able to manage independently, through age, ill health, frailty or disability. Helpers, along with the Drivers, collect prepared shopping orders from the shop and deliver to our customers. Tasks involved in this role include:
• Collecting shopping orders from shops
• Stack van to ensure shopping boxes are secure
• Deliver and unpack shopping orders for customers
• Complete small amount of paperwork
• Report any matters of concern to Food Train staff
• To maintain confidentiality
• Representing Food Train in a professional manner to customers and the wider community

Experience required

Good literacy and numeracy skills.
Friendly, sociable and patient with a caring manner.
Good level of fitness, motivated, reliable, trustworthy and enthusiastic individual.
Good communication and listening skills are needed as well as being a people person with a sense of humour.

Travel details

Start and End day at the Food Train office: Castlelaurie Works, Bankside Industrial Estate, Ironworks Business Centre, Falkirk, FK2 7XE. There is also the option to start directly at nearby Asda or Morrisons supermarket within Falkirk.

Travel expenses

Travel expenses are reimbursed. 45p per mile or any bus fare expenses.

Support
Training details

Staff will organise a taster day.
Training will be offered to support with the role - paperwork completion.
Volunteers will be provided with a Volunteer Handbook and be invited to watch training videos.
Staff will always be available to answer questions.
A PVG will be organised.
Further training includes Dementia Awareness and any other relevant local training.

Restrictions

Minimum age: 16

Volunteers need to be physically able to get in and out of a van and carry shopping.

Frequency & commitment
6hrs – 9am to 3pm approximately Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (number of days and commitment is flexible based on volunteer availability).

Volunteers (aged 16-25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
